Everything You Need To Know About The Camp Out
If you’re an artist in Atlanta and you’ve ever felt like you needed to get your music in front of new people, meet more people in the industry or simply get outside of the same circle you’ve been creating in, The Camp Out was built for you.
On Sunday, September 20, The Campaign ATL is bringing The Camp Out back for a private music and creative experience designed to put artists, producers, songwriters and other music industry creatives in the same space.
For more than a decade, The Campaign ATL has worked with independent artists and creatives, connecting them with opportunities, resources and people across music. The Camp Out grew from something we continued seeing firsthand: talented artists were making music, but many of them needed more access to people outside of their immediate circle.
Sometimes the next step isn’t making another song. Sometimes you need fresh ears, honest feedback, a new producer, a conversation with someone who understands marketing or simply a relationship with somebody you wouldn’t have met otherwise.
That’s what The Camp Out is about.
So, What Exactly Is The Camp Out?
The Camp Out is a music and creative experience held at a private creative estate in Atlanta.
Throughout the experience, artists and attendees will have opportunities to connect with other artists, producers, songwriters, DJs, A&Rs, label professionals, marketing professionals, media and other people working throughout music.
This isn’t a conference where you sit in a ballroom listening to panels all day. The idea is to actually talk, listen, connect and work.
Depending on the pass you choose, you can come experience the room and network, play your own music and receive feedback, or stay for an evening studio session where artists, producers and songwriters can create together.
Who Should Come?
You don't have to be an artist to attend The Camp Out.
General Admission was created for music lovers, producers, creatives, industry professionals and supporters who simply want to experience the room, hear music and meet people working throughout Atlanta's music community.
Artists who want to actually put their music in the room can choose the Artist Pass, while artists and producers who want the additional opportunity to create and build during the evening studio session can choose the Creator Pass.
The common denominator is simple: come ready to meet people outside of your normal circle.
Can I Play My Music?
Yes — with an Artist or Creator Pass.
Participating artists can play up to three songs and receive real-time feedback and perspective from people in the room.
And this is important: the goal isn't for everybody to tell you your music is amazing.
Sometimes you need somebody who hasn't heard every version of the song. Somebody who isn't your friend. Somebody who can hear something you may have missed or ask a question you haven't considered.
Fresh ears can be valuable.
What Happens During the Creator Session?
After the main experience, Creator Pass holders can stay for the evening studio session.
This is where artists, producers and songwriters have another opportunity to connect in a working environment. You might hear beats, exchange ideas, talk about records you're working on or end up creating something together.
There are no forced collaborations and no guaranteed outcomes. We're creating the environment and putting people in the room. What develops from those relationships is up to the people who build them.
Who Will Be in the Room?
Expect a mix of people working across music, including artists, producers, songwriters, DJs, A&Rs, label professionals, marketing professionals, media and other creatives.
But The Camp Out isn't about walking into a room looking for one magical person who is going to change your career.
It's about expanding your network.
One person may introduce you to somebody else. A producer may become somebody you continue working with. Another artist may introduce you to a show. Someone in marketing may give you an idea that changes your rollout.
You don't always know which relationship will matter when you first meet somebody.
What Are the Pass Options?
There are currently three ways to experience The Camp Out:
GENERAL ADMISSION — $20
Attend from 3–6 PM, tour the private creative estate, hear participating artists and network with artists, creatives and music industry professionals.
ARTIST PASS — $100
Get access to the artist experience, play up to three songs, receive live feedback and connect with people working throughout music.
CREATOR PASS — $200
Everything included with the Artist Pass, plus access to the evening Creator studio session with artists, producers and songwriters.
Every guest must have their own ticket. No ticket, no entry.
What Should I Bring?
If you're participating as an artist, come prepared with the music you actually want people to hear. Know which records you want feedback on and think about what questions you want answered.
Everybody should come prepared to introduce themselves, exchange information and have real conversations.
You don't need to walk into the room pitching yourself to every person you see. Build relationships like a normal person. Ask people what they're working on. Listen. Follow up afterward.
The room can introduce you to people. What you do with the introduction is up to you.
Why Did The Campaign ATL Bring The Camp Out Back?
Because independent artists still need access.
Social media has made it possible to connect with almost anyone, but there's still something different about being in the same room, hearing someone's music in real time and having conversations that aren't happening through a DM.
We've watched artists spend months making records only to play them for the same friends, post them to the same followers and wonder why nothing is changing.
The Camp Out gives you an opportunity to interrupt that cycle for a day.
Come play your music. Get real feedback. Talk strategy. Meet somebody new. Hear what somebody else is creating. Exchange information. Follow up.
You don't need to leave with a record deal for the day to have been valuable.
Sometimes you just need to leave with a better next move.
